No money

from Scrapbook by rosie nimmo

about

this is a bit of a diatribe against the banking crisis which has led to the 'financially difficult' times we now live in. When the bankers in Iceland made a mess of their economy several years ago they were held accountable; when ours did the same a couple of years later, the British public had to bale them out and no-one was jailed for gross mismanagement. I've tried to get a bit of a Bessie Smith vibe going on with this song.

lyrics

Got no money, you can’t eat
No money, you can’t sleep
Got no money, you can’t play
With no money you just can’t pay

Got no dollars, cents or rupees
Got no sterling, some kind of disease
No money it’s the worm in your brain
All this worry’s going to drive you insane

All the bankers and the politicians too
They’ve gone and dumped lots of debt on you
Gone and dumped lots of debt on you

What can you do, what can you say?
Does it really have to be this way?
Are we gonna have to wait until the judgement day?
Are we gonna have to wait until the judgement day?
